One is judged by the company he keeps, and Toyota's elite children would never have found acceptance if it had shared a name with those lowly Corollas and Tercels. So Toyota took their best and brightest and endowed them with the label of "Lexus," an ancient word we know to mean "Toyotas for the loaded."
Fast forward 13 years and, whaddyaknow, they're doing it again. Apparently, Toyota thinks the overtargeted 16-to-24-year-old age bracket isn't buying their cars because of the Toyota name. Nevermind that the bulk of Toyota's products are softly-sprung, sedately-styled sedans, and nevermind that the latest Celica was a great success in terms of demographics.
